Group Therapy

Group therapy provides a unique opportunity for children to work on skills with peers in a safe & small group setting with more support than they would get in other settings such as the classroom.

What is Group Therapy?

Groups meet at our East Campus and are led by an occupational therapist, a speech therapist and two adult volunteers. Children are grouped based on age and cognitive skill level.

Groups contain about 6-7 kids and meet every other week during the school year on Wednesdays (August to May).

We have groups for 4–12 year olds and also a teen social club that meets weekly. Other specialized group offerings may be offered various times throughout the year or summer.

Why Group Therapy?

Most people, including children, are spending more time than ever sitting with a screen. This means less time socializing, moving and interacting with the world around them.

While there are many areas of development that can suffer as a result, social and emotional skills are a huge one.

Our groups provide a unique opportunity for children to work on skills with peers in a safe, small group setting with more support than they would get in other settings such as the classroom.

Children are able to explore socially and gain confidence to take their skills out into the community.

Kids Center has been a successful journey of growth for my son. From the early days of private OT sessions and learning it is ok to feel safe and confident, to growing into his ability to work and have fun with a social group, has been a dream come true. The staff of Kids Center are amazing with their support, caring, and planning for successful growth. We'll be forever grateful for this group!

Group therapy is covered by some insurance plans. We also have scholarships available based on financial need.
