Models of Care

Kids Center offers a variety of care models to cater to your child’s unique needs. From weekly therapy sessions to group-only models, we provide personalized care that supports your child’s schedule and well-being.

Weekly or Biweekly Model

1–2 times per week or every other week

The goal is for your child to reach his or her family-centered goals through weekly skilled therapy sessions: 1-2 visits weekly, or every other week.

Your child is progressing towards goals with consistent/continuous skilled interventions with therapy.

You and the therapist are working on establishing and implementing a home program.

The therapist will continuously assess and check in with you to maximize progress and will advise on the most appropriate model of care for your child.

Intensive Model

3–5 times per week for 6–12+ weeks

The goal is for your child to reach his or her family-centered goals through an increase in frequency of therapy visits: 3 to 5 visits per week for 6-12+ weeks.

Your child would benefit from increased frequency of skilled care for a short-term period to target a specific set of skills.

The therapist will continuously assess and check in with you to maximize progress and advise on the most appropriate model of care.

Episodic Model

1–2 times per week for a set duration of time, usually 8–12 weeks

The goal is for your child to reach their family-centered goals through a short-term episode of skilled therapy: a set number of visits per week/month for a set duration of time.

Episodes of therapy are used to reinforce new skills and are followed by time “off” to practice in your child’s natural environment with a home program.

The therapist will continuously assess and check in with you to maximize progress and advise on the most appropriate model of care.

Periodic Model

Visits are scheduled regularly at a decreased frequency—1 time per month or less frequent

The goal is for your child to reach his or her family-centered goals through an established home program and scheduled periodic therapy visits: monthly visits or at regularly scheduled intervals (every 2 months or quarterly.)

The child’s therapist is needed periodically to check function, provide skilled treatment, address equipment needs, update the home program, and advise on the most appropriate model of care.

Group Model

Services are provided in small groups of 3–8 children

The goal is to provide your child with a small group environment in which to meet his or her goals.

Small therapy groups offer a unique opportunity using peer dynamics under the guidance of a skilled therapist for focused skill targeting. The frequency and duration of group therapy varies.

The group therapist will continuously assess and check in with you to maximize progress and advise on the most appropriate model of care.

Consultative Model

No regularly scheduled visits; families are empowered with a home program to improve day-to-day skills

The goal is to allow your child to participate in his or her daily life without the need for skilled intervention.

Your child is not scheduled for regular visits but can be evaluated again. Therapy is always a phone call away if your child changes or regresses, new assistive technology/equipment is needed, or any other needs arise.

Interested in standby appointments?

Standby appointments are open therapy slots that become available when someone cancels their appointment.

If you’re on the waitlist, you might get a call to fill one of these spots, allowing your child to get in for therapy sooner than expected.

It’s a great way to ensure your child doesn’t miss out on valuable therapy time!
